Great way to approximate the Rockwell hardness of my tools and blades.
These files are just what I was looking for. I even received a bag of lollies from Aus Maker. Excellent service.
Description
Curly Amboyna (Narra) Wood Block (30 x 50 x 150mm)
Curly Amboyna Knife Blocks are a stunning display of natural figure, with flowing curls and waves that ripple across warm golden, amber and reddish-brown tones. The chatoyance is exceptional, with the figure shifting and glowing as the light moves across the surface, giving each block a depth that has to be seen in person. Also known as Narra, the national tree of the Philippines, this prized timber delivers rich colour and dramatic movement, and no two blocks are ever the same.
It is important to note that Curly Amboyna (Narra) is a medium density wood, and stabilization is highly recommended, particularly for knife handles. Figured grain can be prone to movement and small fissures, and stabilizing the wood reinforces the fibres from within, making it far more durable and resistant to moisture, cracking and wear that a knife handle will inevitably face. It can be used in its raw state, but this is best suited to decorative or light-use applications. For a handle that will stand the test of time, a stabilized Curly Amboyna block is the way to go.
