Great material to have access to through Tim's great service. Easy to work with, readily forge welds to high carbon steel to create a cladding to a san-mai or go-mai blade.
I've created a handful of knives from these steels. They take an excellent finish and support a fine edge well. The Damascus is beautiful, and it has been fun experimenting with different combinations of HCl and ferric etching processes. Curiously, my touchmark etches yellowish/gold in the stainless, as opposed to black, in a high carbon steel.
The belts are standard high quality of a cubriton belt. The shallow scallops are best suited to large-radius, sweeping contours, in a handle or fuller etc. Which gives them a slightly narrower use case than the deeper scalloped belts that Tim also supplies.
Having more options to shape handles and blades is always a good thing, and these are well priced, and come with Tim's excellent service.
Upgraded to one of these grinders, and have been using it for about 18 months. It's a great piece of kit, and the plunge platens take fit and finish to the next level. Tim prices his stock very competitively, and his service is top notch!
